A last is a foot-shaped mold that determines the fit of the finished product. Our lasts are made out of plastic, milled to our exact size and shape specifications to deliver consistency in the manufacturing process. Unlike many other footwear manufacturers, Danner builds our lasts to the ½ size, for the best possible fit.The key variables among the different lasts are in the overall shape, width of the toe box and the volume (depth). Understanding the differences of each last, as well as knowing the characteristics of your own foot, will provide a good guideline for selecting the best fitting pair of boots.
Once you determine which last(s) work best for you, you will know what to expect in terms of fit for any other shoe built with the same last.

Here is a quick guide to some of our most frequently used lasts:
503
- Hiking inspired last for casual use.
- Designed for full length removable footbed.
- Wider through forefoot, with a little more room in the toebox for a casual fit.
610
- Relatively broad and deep toe box area to give more volume in the forefoot and toe.
- Designed for full length removable foodbed.
- Used in many of the hiking boots.
- This is an industry standard made true to size.
650
- This is one of the most widely used lasts and has a sleek, slender profile with a more narrow fit.
- Used in many uniform boots and a large portion of the hunting boots.
- Designed for feet with low volume; if D width is too snug, go up a width to EE: it will be a little snug out of the box, will stretch with wear 3-5%.
- Designed to be used with the Danner® Airthotic®.
516
- Used for Danner® safety toe products.
- Similar to the 650 last with a toe gradient to accommodate the safety toe cap.
850
- Sleek, low volume profile; slightly bigger than the 610 last.
- This is an industry standard made true to size.
- Fits wider out of the box; very narrow foot may be uncomfortable.
- Provides running shoe-like fit; athletic in appearance and performance.
851
- An improved version of the 850 last (making the original obsolete over time).
- Dramatically improved heel capture shape and silhouette.
DLE-01
- Designed to be an extension of the foot to allow the user to feel the surface underneath them.
- Provides superior forefoot and heel capture.
- The anatomical shape provides additional comfort and stability.
- More room in the toebox allows the foot to naturally react when bearing a heavy load or changing directions laterally in a high intensity environment.
DPDX
- Low profile for everyday wear.
- Built to offer enough room for comfort while maintaining a sleek profile.
- Designed to be used with the Ortholite foodbed.
- It's recommended to size down 1/2 size for best fit.

- Based on DPDX last, but offers a slightly more secure/snug fit for jobsite application.
971
- Offers a gentleman's boot fit.
- Easy to wear and comfortable for use in a variety of casual environments.
- True to size, but could size down 1/2 size for a more snug fit.
