Boots that are offered with a GORE-TEX® or Danner Dry liner are already 100% waterproof, but there are still some measures to take to ensure you get the most out of your boot. All of our leathers are pre-treated and ready to go right out of the box with water-resistant properties. As you start to wear them and they are used in-and-out of water, the protective coating in the tanning process will wear off, so treating the leather with a water-resistant product is advised. Saturating your leather with water can make the boots heavy while in-use, can create water spots between the leather and liner, and can make the boots stiff, eventually ruining the snug fit.
When you notice your leather darkening and saturating with water during wear, it is time to apply our Danner Waterproofing Gel (for smooth leather) or Waterproofing Spray (for nubuck, suede and rough-out). After the boots have been cleaned, conditioned and are dry, apply the gel with a clean rag and work the substance deep into the pores of the leather. Allow the boots to dry and wipe away any excess product.
