Please note that the following information should be used as a guideline as each person's insulation needs will vary based on a number of individual factors.
Determining what level of insulation you'll need for the outdoors is tricky and might rely on trial and error. Our boots offer insulation packages ranging from 200 grams, all the way up to 1200 grams. Here are some general guidelines to help you narrow down your choices:
If you are stagnant for long periods of time in temperatures ranging from 32 degrees F or below (i.e in a tree stand, blind or doing stationary field work), an insulation level of 1000G+ is recommended.
If you are primarily hiking or stalking, you should target an insulation level between 200G - 800G, depending on temperatures and what has historically worked for you.
For a more moderate climate (32 - 60 degrees F), insulation from 800G or below is recommended. However, the level of insulation required is based on these key factors:
- If you typically run warm and work up a sweat, 200G should be ideal. This will give you less bulk but provide the necessary protection from the elements.
- If your extremities typically run cold, using a 400G - 800G insulation package should provide a higher level of comfort.
Again, these are guidelines based on feedback from the majority of our users as well as information from our product team. Your individual experience may differ.
